Crown Presented by PM Modi to Goddess Kali Stolen from Jeshoreshwari Temple in Bangladesh
Dhaka :. After the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh, the interim government was unable to safeguard the crown presented by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Goddess Kali. It has been stolen. Prime Minister Modi visited Bangladesh during his first foreign trip after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and offered the crown at the feet of Goddess Kali in the prominent Shakti Peeth, Jeshoreshwari Temple, to seek her blessings. The crown was stolen on Thursday afternoon.
According to a report by The Daily Star, a newspaper published in the capital Dhaka, the temple is located in Shyamnagar, Satkhira district of Bangladesh. Dilip Mukherjee, the priest of the Jeshoreshwari Temple, stated that after completing the day's worship, he left the temple around 2 PM. Shortly after, a cleaning staff member entered the premises. A little while later, he noticed the idol of Goddess Kali and was astonished to find that the crown was missing. Prime Minister Modi had visited the Jeshoreshwari Temple on March 27, 2021, and had placed the crown on the head of Goddess Kali as an offering. This temple is one of the 52 Shakti Peeths in Hinduism.
Inspector Taizul Islam from Shyamnagar Police Station confirmed the incident. He mentioned that they are reviewing the temple's CCTV footage to identify the thief. Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a family member who has cared for the temple for generations, said that the crown was made of silver and was plated with gold. It is noteworthy that this incident occurred during the major Hindu festival of Sharadiya Navratri, which celebrates the nine forms of Goddess Durga, one of which is Goddess Kali.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi stated that India would construct a multipurpose community hall at this temple. This hall will be used by local citizens for social, religious, and educational events. Additionally, this multipurpose community hall will serve as a shelter for everyone during disasters like cyclones.
Construction in the late 12th century
The construction of this temple, which has 100 rooms, was initiated by a Brahmin named Anari in the late 12th century. It was renovated by Lakshman Sen in the 13th century and reconstructed by King Pratapditya in the 16th century.

According to legend, the hands and feet of Goddess Sati fell at this Shakti Peeth. The goddess resides here as Mother Jeshoreshwari. Lord Shiva appears as Chanda. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali.
