Kalyan: Large Potholes on 60-Foot Road in Chinchpada; Commuters Face Hardships
Mumbai:In the Chinchpada area of Kalyan East, the 60-foot road has developed significant potholes, causing considerable difficulties for travelers. This road is flanked by two schools, meaning students, parents, and teachers must navigate these hazards daily on their way to school.
Despite being one of the busiest roads, local municipal construction officials and the contractor have not taken any action to repair the potholes or restore the road to a usable condition, leading to strong frustration among residents, teachers, and parents. The Chinchpada area has seen an increase in housing developments, further raising the population density. Passengers frequently travel along this road via rickshaws and private vehicles from Kalyan East railway station.
Before the Ganesh festival, the potholes were temporarily filled with gravel, but the constant traffic has caused the gravel to wash away, leaving large holes once again. Parents in the area struggle to bring their children to school along this damaged road, often splashed with muddy water from vehicles hitting the potholes. Pedestrians visiting the market face similar challenges, and elderly residents have to maneuver carefully to cross the road.
Many rickshaw drivers refuse to take passengers due to the road's condition, resulting in daily inconveniences for travelers heading from Kalyan East railway station to Chinchpada. Residents have expressed their intent to protest against the municipality if the potholes are not filled within the next two days.
Executive Engineer Jagdish Kore stated that the contractor must be instructed to immediately fill the potholes and restore the road to a proper condition.
