Modi's Ukraine Visit - Jaishankar Urges Caution for Indian Students
Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Ukraine on Friday, marking his first trip to the war-torn country since the onset of the conflict with Russia in 2022. The visit will be a brief one, lasting approximately seven hours, with Modi embarking on a 10-hour train journey under tight security conditions. Details of his itinerary remain undisclosed due to the sensitive nature of traveling to an active war zone. However, Modi has expressed that the visit is an opportunity to strengthen India-Ukraine relations and discuss peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict. In a statement on X, Modi emphasized India's hope for the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
This visit follows Modi's recent trip to Russia, where he spent two days meeting with President Vladimir Putin. The visit included an informal meeting and a dinner at Putin’s dacha, an honor bestowed upon only a few visiting leaders. Modi's engagement with Russia underscored India's balanced diplomatic approach amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Modi's diplomatic tour also included a visit to Poland on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in nearly 45 years. Modi's discussions with Polish leaders, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda, focused on enhancing bilateral ties and celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations. Modi underscored Poland’s role as a key economic partner in Central Europe and reiterated the need for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
