Pakistan Cricket's Struggles Laid Bare by Selector Aaqib Javed: 'ICC Mei Log Haste Hain

Multan :The state of Pakistan cricket remains a topic of concern, highlighted by recent comments from current PCB selector Aaqib Javed. As the Shan Masood-led team approaches a potential victory against England in the second Test of the three-match series, former cricketers and fans alike continue to express their worries about the team's performance.
Aaqib Javed recounted a conversation with Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir during a podcast, where Gambhir questioned, "What has happened to Pakistan cricket despite so much talent?" Javed acknowledged the frustration surrounding Pakistan's cricketing decline, stating, "ICC mei log haste hain," implying that the international cricket community is laughing at Pakistan's struggles.
The backdrop to this discussion is a tumultuous period for Pakistan cricket, which saw the team on a losing streak, culminating in the decision to drop star batter Babar Azam from the second Test against England. Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah were also excluded from the squad as part of a significant shake-up.
In a bid to rejuvenate the team's fortunes, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restructured its selection committee, reducing its size from seven to five members. The new committee, led by Aaqib Javed, also includes Aleem Dar, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema. Notably, both captain Shan Masood and head coach Jason Gillespie have been stripped of their voting rights in the selection process.
Pakistan’s cricketing woes have been stark, with the team recently losing the first Test against England despite posting a formidable 556 runs in their first innings. Earlier this year, Pakistan's early exit from the T20 World Cup and failure to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup added to the mounting pressure on the team.
As the second Test unfolds, England is struggling to chase down a target of 297 runs, having lost five wickets. A win for Pakistan would level the series at 1-1, offering a glimmer of hope amid the ongoing challenges faced by the team.
The cricketing world watches closely, hoping for a turnaround that can restore Pakistan’s position in international cricket and reignite the excitement of India-Pakistan encounters.
