Ratan Tata's Funeral to Be Held with State Honors in Mumbai This Evening
Mumbai : The funeral of the country's leading industrialist Ratan Tata will take place this evening in Mumbai with full state honors. Following Ratan Tata's passing, the Maharashtra government has declared a day of state mourning in the state, canceling all programs.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the demise of the senior industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons is akin to losing a Kohinoor diamond for the country, especially for Maharashtra. His funeral will be conducted with full state honors, and a day of state mourning will be observed, with the national flag flying at half-mast at all government offices.
According to the Tata Group, Ratan Tata's mortal remains will be available for public viewing from 10 AM to 4 PM today at the National Centre for Performing Arts in South Mumbai. People from all walks of life will have the opportunity to pay their last respects. The group has requested that visitors enter through Gate No. 3 and exit through the same gate, as there will be no parking available at the NCPA premises. At 4 PM, the body will be taken to the crematorium at Worli, Dr. E Moses Road, for the final rites. The family has expressed gratitude for the love and sympathy received following Ratan Tata's passing.
The Tata Group stated, "We, his brothers, sisters, and family, warmly accept the condolences from those who admired him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of humility, generosity, and purpose will continue to inspire future generations."
Chief Minister Shinde remarked that Ratan Tata embodied a unique and ideal combination of ethics and entrepreneurship. He was a living legend, having successfully led the Tata Group with a legacy of excellence and integrity for nearly 150 years, elevating the group to great heights. Shinde paid tribute to him.
Notably, Ratan Tata became the chairman of the group in 1991. He transformed Telco and later Tata Motors into a leading automobile manufacturer and made Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) a prominent IT company. He also successfully led companies like Tata Chemicals, Tata Tea, and Tata Steel. He retired as chairman of the Tata Group in 2012, but continued to guide various industries afterward. Ratan Tata's resilience following the 2008 Mumbai attacks will always be remembered. His decisions, courageous attitude, and social commitment will be cherished.
