Vasai: Sexual Assault Incident Uncovered at Naigaon School.
Vasai,A 16-year-old juvenile delinquent has been accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl at Our Lady of Velankani School in Naigaon, Vasai. The Naigaon police have arrested the accused in connection with this case.
The victim is a second-grade student at the school. On August 22, she was unwilling to go to the school canteen and reported to her teacher that the "uncle" working there was troubling her. The teacher relayed this information to Principal Melvin Sequeira. When Sequeira inquired further, the girl revealed that the 16-year-old in the canteen had been sexually assaulting her for the past 15 days. Notably, the girl had also informed her family about the abuse earlier, but it was not taken seriously at the time.
Principal Sequeira immediately reported the incident to the Naigaon police, who arrested the accused under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Bhame stated that the police have seized CCTV footage for examination and are investigating whether similar incidents have occurred with other girls. Although the victim's parents initially refused to file a complaint, the principal and teachers did not suppress the issue and reported it to the police.
Principal Melvin Sequeira emphasized, “We take full responsibility for the safety of the children in our school. We have 65 to 70 CCTV cameras installed. This incident is unfortunate, which is why we reported it to the police ourselves.”
