Virar-Global City to Receive Water on Vijayadashami!

Virar: The long-awaited decision to supply water to Virar West’s Global City on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami has finally been made by the municipal corporation. This move is set to bring relief to over 50,000 residents living in more than 15,000 flats in the area. Although the decision to provide water to Global City had been taken as early as February, several leaks—13 to be precise—were found in the water pipeline stretching from Chandansar to Global City. These issues, along with frequent breakdowns in the pipeline, delayed the water supply. The municipal corporation clarified these delays during a meeting with MLA Kshitij Thakur from the Nalasopara constituency.
On 26th September, MLA Kshitij Thakur held a detailed review meeting with municipal officers. Following the discussions, directives were issued to ensure that water supply to Global City from the Virar-Club One water tank begins on the day of Vijayadashami. Additionally, all necessary repairs and related works were instructed to be completed promptly.
A 2-million-liter capacity water tank has been constructed at Virar-Club One under the AMRUT scheme, specifically for supplying water to the 50,000 residents of Global City. Out of the 185 million liters of water allotted to Vasai-Virar under the Surya water project, 85 million liters have already been received in the first phase. Global City residents, who have been relying on water tankers so far, will now get 1.5 million liters of water daily from this tank.
Pipeline Issues and Solutions
Earlier, the municipality was storing water in an old underground tank with a capacity of 13 million liters, but this proved inadequate. Former Water Supply Chairman Praful Sane advised switching to the new tank to ensure smoother and more pressurized water supply.
The second phase of the Surya Water Supply Project started in 2017, but it was delayed due to farmer compensation issues, forest department clearances, highway authority permissions, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, 95% of the project is complete. The municipality has also finished laying internal pipelines, costing ₹67 crores. Additionally, ₹167 crores have been allocated for another dam owned by the corporation, which will further address water needs. Former Chairman Praful Sane reiterated that MLA Hitendra Thakur and his team had to work tirelessly in difficult circumstances to push this project forward.
Committee Formed for Water Distribution
To ensure smooth and organized water supply in Global City, a water committee has been formed under the guidance of MLA Kshitij Thakur. This committee will monitor municipal projects and facilities. The committee is also tasked with regularly updating MLA Kshitij Thakur on progress. Former corporators Ranjan Patil, Kiran Thakur, Prafull Sane and Prashant Chaubal are part of this committee.
Focus on Other Civic Works
On 28th September, another meeting was held in the presence of MLA Kshitij Thakur, where municipal officers from the power, construction, and health departments were present. They were urged to complete all pending projects related to these departments. Several residents of Global City also attended this meeting.
