Mumbai and Surrounding Areas on High Alert as IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall.
Mumbai,The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for Mumbai and its neighboring regions as forecasts predict heavy rainfall over the next few days. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures and stay updated on weather conditions.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea is expected to bring significant rainfall to the Mumbai metropolitan region and the surrounding areas. The system has intensified, and the IMD forecasts that it could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall, potentially exceeding 200 mm in some areas.
The alert has prompted local authorities to prepare for potential disruptions. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has mobilized resources for drainage management, and emergency services are on high alert. Schools and businesses in the affected regions are being advised to monitor official communications for any potential closures or delays.
The weather conditions could result in traffic disruptions, flooding in low-lying areas, and possible landslides in the hilly regions surrounding the city. The IMD has also cautioned fishermen and coastal communities to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough weather conditions.
Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. Emergency services can be reached through the city's helpline numbers, and updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
