RG files case: Parents accuse police of covering up the matter and offering a bribe.
Kolkata: In the case of rape and murder involving RG Kar, the relatives of the victim have made serious allegations. They joined the protesting doctors at RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday night and accused the Kolkata police of attempting to cover up the case. They claim that the police hurriedly performed the last rites of their daughter’s body in an attempt to conceal the matter.
During the protest at the Government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, they leveled several serious accusations. The parents demanded justice and alleged that a senior police officer tried to offer a bribe after the incident came to light.
The victim’s father stated that the police had tried to suppress the case from the beginning. They were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while the autopsy was conducted. Later, when the body was handed over to them, a senior police officer offered them money, which they immediately rejected.
The Calcutta High Court had ordered in the second week of August that the case be transferred to the CBI.
The victim’s parents, who were postgraduate trainees, reported that they joined the protest to support junior doctors demanding justice for their daughter.
It is noteworthy that since August 10, there have been protests across the state, with people from various sectors demanding justice for the victim.
On Monday, the CBI arrested Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with financial irregularities.
On Tuesday, the West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed a rape bill providing for the death penalty for those convicted of rape if the victim dies or falls into a permanent vegetative state due to the crime. The bill also includes provisions for life imprisonment without parole for other offenders.
